DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Miami Dolphins rookie cornerback Xavien Howard will start training camp on the physically-unable-to-perform list following arthroscopic knee surgery.

Coach Adam Gase said Tuesday that Howard was injured on the final day of minicamp in June and is expected to be back for the first regular-season game. Training camp begins Friday.

Howard, a second-round draft pick from Baylor, had been contending for a starting job with Tony Lippett, a fifth-round pick in 2015 and a converted receiver.
