Tavares Jones co-anchors WSVN’s # 1 rated morning news program TODAY IN FLORIDA.
Prior to covering news in South Florida, Tavares served as a morning news anchor at KNWA & KFTA-TV of Northwest Arkansas. He has also worked at stations in Dayton, Ohio, and Macon, Georgia.
A graduate of the University of Florida, Tavares holds dual degrees in journalism and political science. Prior to graduation, he began a career as a paralegal and public affairs director at a regional law firm based in Gainesville, FL, specializing in criminal defense, personal injury, wrongful death, and medical malpractice representation. Tavares’ background and experience have given him the unique opportunity to apply his legal knowledge to news coverage of several high-profile court cases and crime headlines across various television news markets.
As a fierce advocate for excellence, community, inclusion, and the vital role of accurate and transparent journalism, Tavares works to use the platform as an opportunity to make a long-lasting positive impact, in the lives of news viewers, their families, and a difference for the common good.
Tavares’ professional affiliations include the National Association of Black Journalists, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Radio Television Digital News Association. He also devotes much of his time to various community organizations including the United Way, Boys & Girls Club, Catholic Charities, Feeding America Food Banks, Children’s Miracle Network, and the Miss America Scholarship Organization.
