MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. (WSVN) - Rescue crews took a teenage girl to the hospital after she was found shot in Miami Gardens, and police said this all began with an encounter north of the county line.

Miami Gardens Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the area of Northwest Second Avenue and 199th Street, at around 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

“It’s just going to be a pediatric trauma alert, 17-year-old female,” said a first responder in radio transmissions.

7News cameras captured a white car with its doors open and its windshield riddled with bullets in the parking lot of a strip mall, near the Sub City sandwich shop.

“That means this area is not safe,” said Rood Guillaume, who works nearby.

Paramedics transported the young patient to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital with traumatic injuries that were not life-threatening.

While officers found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds in Miami Gardens, investigators said this incident originated in Miramar, about three and a half miles away.

Miramar Police detectives said the teen who was shot and the individual believed to have pulled the trigger had met online and agreed to meet in person along the 6800 block of Southwest 25th Street, at around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday.

One of the two people involved told police that an attempted robbery took place, at which point the shooting happened.

The teen who came under fire drove herself to the parking lot in Miami Gardens and called 911 when she realized she needed more help.

Miramar Police said they are talking to both people involved in the incident, who have been identified. Detectives said they are not seeking anyone else, as they continue to investigate.
