SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - Authorities swarmed a Southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood following a shooting at a home that they said sent a woman to the hospital and left a man dead.
Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance call at a home along the 15400 block of Southwest 148th Street, just after 11 a.m. on Thursday.
Deputies arrived at the scene to hear screaming coming from inside the house. They quickly assembled a team to go in, breached the house and went inside.
Upon entry, they discovered the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
“Upon deputies’ arrival, they discovered a male and female who suffered gunshot wounds,” said MDSO spokesperson Daniel Castillo.
Preliminary information by the MDSO has revealed that the woman lived inside the home. The man arrived in the morning hours and got into a dispute with her. The dispute escalated and resulted in the man shooting the woman before turning the gun on himself.
Paramedics rushed the woman to Jackson South Medical Center where she remains in critical condition.
Officials describe the incident as an attempted murder-suicide.
The area around the house has been cordoned off since the morning and Crime Scene Investigators have since arrived to begin their investigation.
Neighbors say they’re shaken by this nightmare unfolding in what they call a typically safe and quiet neighborhood.
“It’s a horrible, horrible situation for our community and for the family members. My heart goes out to them,” said area resident Debbie Sullivan.
As of late Thursday afternoon, the identities of both the man and woman have not been released. Officials are also investigating if there was any relationship between the two of them.
