MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - A 21-year-old man is facing multiple felony charges, including attempted second-degree murder and child porn possession, after police said he confessed to randomly stabbing a man at a Miami Beach park, as well as other disturbing crimes.
Body camera video captured Sebastian Tomas Datorre Rodriguez moments after he walked inside the Miami Beach Police Department on Washington Avenue, just after 3 a.m. on Sunday.
“I committed a couple of felonies tonight. I just want to turn myself in,” he said. “I wanna turn myself in, man. It’s a felony, and if I’m in here for a while, life ain’t for me.”
The suspect would go on to tell officers he stabbed a man in the neck.
“I planned this completely. I knew I wanted to commit a crime, and I wanted it to be at least a felony offense to get some time here,” Datorre Rodriguez is heard saying to officers in bodycam video. “I ran over here as soon as I stabbed him to self-report myself.”
Police learned the incident unfolded just minutes earlier at Soundscape Park, near Lincoln Road and Washington Avenue.
Detectives said Datorre Rodriguez stabbed the victim as he slept.
Responding officers arrived to find the victim bleeding heavily from the right side of his neck.
“The victim basically told them that he was asleep when he felt pain in his neck, and he woke up to a knife there,” said Miami Beach Police Officer Christopher Bess.
The arrest report states the victim heard the suspect say, “There, gotcha.”
As the victim dialed 911, police said, Datorre Rodriguez ran off and headed straight for the police department.
Officers and the victim applied pressure to the wound until paramedics with Miami Beach Fire Rescue transported the patient to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
Police said he underwent emergency surgery and is listed in stable condition.
Back at the scene, investigators recovered a bloodied kitchen knife on the sidewalk near the scene.
According to the arrest report, Datorre Rodriguez, who is autistic, told detectives he had been thinking about stabbing someone for several days and did not know the victim.
“The defendant basically stated that he woke up, he got a knife, and he wanted a change of scenery and not to burden his parents,” said Bess. “Therefore, he randomly selected a person that was asleep and stabbed him.”
While in custody, police said, Datorre Rodriguez disclosed he possessed numerous images and videos of child sexual abuse material on his phone, which he said he obtained from the dark web and shared with others on Discord.
Police said he also admitted to distributing videos depicting sexual acts with animals.
Detectives confirmed the material met the criteria for child sexual abuse and bestiality.
Datorre Rodriguez was arrested and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in West Miami-Dade.
Monday afternoon, he stood before Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Mindy S. Glazer.
“These are very disturbing statements about wanting to stab somebody, he’s thinking about it for a long time,” said Glazer.
Authorities told 7News the suspect initially planned to stab a different man who he saw arguing with his girlfriend. When the couple got into their car and drove off, he then turned his attention to the sleeping victim.
“His mission was to kill. He didn’t care if the victim survived or not,” said Bess.
Datorre Rodriguez faces several charges, including attempted second-degree murder, sexual performance by a child and engaging in sexual conduct with animals. He is being held without bond.
