WSVN — As we continue our special Bite series, Lorena Estrada is dishing out a New Year’s traditional treat straight from her Greek family’s recipe book. That’s what’s cooking tonight, so let’s grab a bite.

The Chef: Lorena Estrada
The Dish: Vasilopita

Ingredients:
1/2 pound butter, melted
2 cups sugar
6 tsp. baking powder
4 cups flour

Method of Preparation:
– Butter the bottom and sides of a 12 X 3-inch round cake pan.

– Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt the butter and beat on medium high heat with mixer until light in color. Set aside.

– Beat eggs until light in color for about three to four minutes.

– Add sugar and continue beating until fluffy, another three to four minutes. While continuing to mix, add milk, baking powder, orange zest and juice. Add flour and cooled butter.

– Pour the batter into the pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes until lightly brown.
