WSVN — The South Beach Wine and Food Festival is going to the dogs. We’re baking something yummy for fido. Time to grab a Bite with Belkys.

The Chefs: Lee Schrager & Hedy Goldsmith
For the “Yappie Hour” event at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival
The Dish: Organic Peanut Butter & Organic Pumpkin Dog Treats

Ingredients:                                                                                                                                                       Organic Peanut Butter Dog Treats
4 cups whole wheat flour
2 tsp. baking powder
2 cups peanut butter (almond butter can be substituted)
2 cups organic non fat milk
Organic Pumpkin Dog Treats

2 eggs
½ cup canned pure pumpkin puree
2 tablespoons dry milk powder
2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
*Dash water as needed

Method of Preparation:
For the Peanut Butter Treats: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Flour a work surface and roll out the biscuit dough until they are 1/2 inch thick. Make sure to flour the work surface as needed.

Cut the dough into dog bones, fire hydrants or kittens or use whatever cookie cutters you have. Re-roll the scrap pieces. Place the biscuits on a paper lined baking sheet pan.

Bake for 20-25 minutes until completely hard and dry. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely. Store up to 2 weeks in an air tight container at room temperature.

For the Pumpkin Treats: Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees. Stir all ingredients together in a bowl and add a couple of teaspoons of water as needed to make the dough come together. Roll out the dough to about ½ inch thick on a lightly floured surface.

Use about 1-inch cookie cutter shapes of your choice to cut out the dough and place them 1-inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes and flip over. Bake for another 15-20 minutes until hardened.

Let cool completely before serving.

* Lee says, “Always check with your vet prior to serving doggie treats!”

* Hedy says, “These biscuits are irresistible to our four legged friends, and kids can also enjoy them. They’re completely healthy for pets and kids.”

The Yappie Hour event is Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Standard Spa on Miami Beach from 4-6 p.m.
