N.C. State’s Evan Mendoza and Joe Dunand each singled off Garcia in the ninth before the Miami closer struck out Brock Deatherage and got Andrew Knizner to ground out to end it.
Chance Shepard homered and finished with four RBIs for the fifth-seeded Wolfpack (34-20). They fell to 0-2 in the tournament.
