SAN DIEGO, CA (WSVN) — The video of a victim of a brutal attack on a California bus that happened over a year ago has been released.

The attack began when a man in his late thirties stepped onto the bus.

According to the video, which released last week, he victim can be seen sitting down in the back. Another passenger is then seen in the victim’s line of sight.

“So, the victim is looking out the window, past the suspect,” said Chula Vista Police Department Lt. Fritz Reber. “Kind of orienting himself to where he’s at and where to get off.”

The other passenger believed the man was looking at him, police said, and became infuriated.

“He yelled at him and said something that gave the victim the indication that his sexual orientation had to do with what was upsetting the suspect,” added Reber.

The man being yelled at stayed quiet and looked forward at the final stop. The alleged victim then gets off the bus and comes face-to-face with the aggressor, who lands a punch.

Police said for the next minute, the victim was punched and kicked. No one stepped in to help the victim.

When shown this video, frequent bus riders said they are frustrated. “I ride the bus every day,” said Alma Nunez. “So it makes me really sad.”

The victim suffered a fractured eye socket, which required several surgeries.

He was so traumatized that he did not want police to go public for the last year and a half.

Police now hope new leads will help them track down this stranger on the bus.
