FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) — Police have arrested a man who, they said, stole two championship rings from the Miami Dolphins’ 1972 and 1984 Super Bowl victories from a player’s home.

According to Fort Lauderdale Police, 25-year-old Ivy Petersen was arrested Tuesday, shortly after he broke into former Dolphins player Bob Kuechenberg’s Fort Lauderdale home. Both rings were recovered.

Police said Petersen had stolen a car Monday afternoon, and later that night, officers spotted him driving the vehicle. They said he sped off and ditched the car near Kuechenberg’s home.

Police said, as they were searching for Petersen early Tuesday morning, the subject broke into Kuechenberg’s home through a window and snatched the two expensive rings. “I also don’t know that he knew, by going into that residence, that he was going to come out with such a token,” said Fort Lauderdale Police Detective DeAnna Greenlaw.

Investigators said a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy saw Petersen leaving though the same window through which he crawled into the home.

Residents of Kuenchenberg’s upscale neighborhood said they were shocked by the burglary. “If I were going to pick on somebody, I’d pick on somebody else besides a former Miami Dolphin,” said neighbor David Bayer.

After receiving his rings back, Kuechenberg told 7News off camera he will no longer be storing them inside his home.
