CHICAGO (AP) — Assistant Chicago Fire Department Commissioner Michael Fox says the pilot in a small plane crash has died.

The small twin-engine cargo plane crashed into a home Tuesday, plunging into the basement but leaving the bungalow’s two residents unhurt.

Fox did not identify the pilot but says emergency crews are trying to recover the body from the wreckage.

The pilot of the Aero Commander 500 had just taken off from nearby Midway International Airport when he reported engine trouble around 2:40 a.m. and asked to return to the airport.

The plane went down about a quarter mile from the runway.
