MIAMI (WSVN) - A woman was killed and a man was taken to the hospital after, police said, they were shot in Miami’s Overtown section.

City of Miami Police units responded to the scene near Northwest 12th Street and First Avenue, at around 1:24 a.m., Sunday.

Officers found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds upon arrival.

“I checked around, and I did find one lady, and she’s one of the neighbors here, and she was shot in the foot,” said witness Chastity Orsatelliz. “The other neighbor, he was shot in the neck.”

Orsatelliz said she heard a lot of gunfire.

“Shots kept going and kept going,” she said.

Paramedics rushed both victims to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where the woman died soon after arrival. She was said to be in her 50s.

The second victim remains at the hospital in unknown condition.

Back at the scene of the shooting, detectives spent the pre-dawn hours sifting through clues and searching for whoever pulled the trigger.

As for area residents reacting to the deadly incident, they said enough is enough.

“Stop the madness. It’s just crazy,” said Orsatelliz
