(WSVN) - Court is back in session for week two of jury selection for the penalty trial of confessed Parkland school shooter.

Twelve jurors and eight alternates must be chosen before testimony can begin.

As of 4 p.m. Monday, no jurors have been selected.

Many either cited they cannot commit to the months necessary for the penalty-phase trial or cannot be impartial.

Once selected, jurors will decide whether Nikolas Cruz will be sentenced to life in prison or get the death penalty.

Under Florida law, all 12 jurors must unanimously agree before he can be sentenced to death.

Cruz confessed to killing 17 people when he opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland in 2018.

Last year, he pleaded guilty to 17 counts of first-degree murder and 17 counts of attempted murder.
