DORAL, FLA. (WSVN) - A 3-year-old dog has returned home to his family after a battle with cancer.

Miami-Dade Animal Services returned the pit bull named Rusty to his owners Friday.

The owners said they had to return the pup, who was diagnosed with a bone tumor, due to his declining health and their inability to pay for medical care, but the shelter decided to provide the procedure for free.

“Our hearts are so open, and it’s just unconditional love that we feel,” said Newton Rossi, who adopted dog. “We’re so grateful for everything that the animal services of Miami-Dade has done.”

Animal services are hoping Rusty, who came into their care as a stray, will live a long happy life at his new home in Broward county.
