(WSVN) - A Palmetto Bay restaurant was engulfed by flames.
The fire broke out at the Golden Rule Seafood Market and Restaurant located at Southwest 175th Street and US-1 around 3 a.m., Tuesday.
A video showed the smokey blaze coming from the backside of the establishment.
Courtney Reeder, the owner, spoke about the fire.
“We heard about it last night in the middle of all the firework Fourth of July celebration,” said Reeder.
Fire crews closed down the streets as they tried to contain the flames. People captured the flames on their cellphones coming from the backside of the restaurant.
Miami-Dade Fire Fighters returned to the scene after some poles on the property were smoldering.
The main building was not damaged, but the patio area looked like it took most of the heat.
The outside seating area was destroyed, and the structure that covered it, possibly a tiki hut, burned to a crisp, but the seafood market is still open for business.
“We are open for business, so we have moved some stuff around,” said Reeder. “With some support of our next-door neighbors, Christina’s Party Rental, they helped bring some tables in. We’ve had people here since early this morning cleaning, working on resetting up our dining room, which this is actually originally how we started, so we are open and we are just taking a little step back, and we’re gonna keep moving forward.”
No injuries were reported since the restaurant was closed for the holiday.
The restaurant, which has been in the area for decades, has lost the majority of its seating. They’re just asking for their customers for their patience as they readjust.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
