SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - Miami-Dade firefighters continued their annual tradition of enjoying dinner with a man they saved five years ago.

Firefighters from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Station 53 saved Rolando Alvarez’s life when he had a heart attack and collapsed while playing basketball.

Station 53 units responded to the scene and brought back his pulse, as he was taken to the hospital. Since then, they have developed a bond that keeps the yearly tradition alive. “They’re special to me, and I consider them, when I say truly my brothers, it’s because I consider them family,” Alvarez said. “I think they’re people that I feel comfortable around, and I care for them.”

The Alvarez family and the firefighters shared seafood paella on this particular occasion, which they just hope is one of many more to come.
