MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. (WSVN) - A shooter is at large after someone was shot just outside Florida Memorial University, Tuesday, in Miami Gardens.

According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, an adult male was injured after he was shot in the leg. It is unclear whether the person is a student or faculty member.

Police placed the school on lockdown in search of the shooter but came up empty-handed. The school lockdown was lifted sometime just after 1 p.m. and police have cleared the scene.

Students received an alert notification soon after the shooting occurred, which read: “Shortly after 11 a.m., a shooting incident occurred off-campus, according to the Miami Gardens PD. At this time, a campus lock down has been ordered while police officials and campus officials complete their investigations. Please stay in your dorms, offices and buildings until further notice. For your safety, a lockdown has been ordered.”

One student was on campus at the time of the shooting. “We don’t know what really happened,” said the student. “We are upset because we don’t know what is going to happen, how long this will take. We have a lot of exams. We don’t know if some students got hurt.”

The man was transported to a nearby hospital. Their condition is unknown.

The shooting happened somewhere just outside the front entrance of the school.
