SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - A man accused of driving a getaway car that transported a gunman who shot a corrections officer has taken a plea deal in court.

Roderick Everett was sentenced to 12 years in prison and one year of probation.

According to police, Roderick Everett was driving the getaway car that transported the shooter who shot a corrections officer outside of his Southwest Miami-Dade Home in August of 2014.

Police said the officer was cleaning his car in front of his house when it happened. The men stole his gold chain and shot him twice.

Everett has been sentenced to 12 years in prison and one year of probation.

The corrections officer survived the gunshots.
