MIAMI (WSVN) — Florida Governor Rick Scott teamed up with Miami-Dade officials to fight Florida’s Zika virus battle.

On Wednesday, the governor discussed ways for South Florida to combat the disease.

Local Zika cases are on the rise despite an increase in pest control spraying across South Florida. Gov. Scott said, “Look at your own property, make sure you have no standing water and make sure, when you’re outside, to cover your sleeves and wear repellant. The best way to prevent this is to do those things.”

In February, Scott called for a declaration of public health emergency for the four counties in Florida with infected residents.

Now, there are 20 counties in Florida with Zika cases.
