MARGATE, Fla. (AP) – Two girls have received lifetime passes to a South Florida waterpark after helping to save a boy from drowning last month.
The Sun Sentinel reports that Margate City Commissioners approved the Calypso Cove passes Wednesday for 7-year-old Christine Regina and 15-year-old Rebecca Valbrun.
The newspaper reports that Christine was preparing to leave the pool when she noticed a young boy flapping his arms. She initially thought he was playing, but when she went to swim underwater a short time later, she spotted the 6-year-old boy on the pool’s floor. Christine told Valbrun, and the older girl picked him up and swam him to the pool’s edge.
City officials say lifeguards began CPR, and the boy started breathing on his own. He was taken to a nearby hospital where his mother says he made a full recovery.
