MILTON, Fla. (AP) — A Florida man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for ordering his pit bulls to attack deputies who were trying to arrest his wife.

News outlets report that 28-year-old David William Trappman was sentenced this past week. A Santa Rosa County jury convicted him in September of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and other charges.

Prosecutors say deputies went to Trappman’s Milton home in October 2017 to serve an arrest warrant for felony drug possession on his wife. Trappman initially tried to block the deputies while his wife hid. When deputies went inside to search for her, prosecutors say Trappman agitated his two dogs and commanded them to attack a deputy. One dog bit the deputy’s leg, prompting another deputy to fatally shoot the animal.

Trappman’s wife was eventually found hiding under a laundry basket.
