DAVIE, FLA. (WSVN) - Davie Fire Rescue made history, Thursday, by hiring the first female fire rescue chief in Broward County history.

Davie Fire Rescue promoted 55-year-old Julie Downey to fire chief, marking the first time in county history that a woman has held that position.

Downey, who was previously the assistant fire chief, has been working in fire rescue for more than 30 years.

She will formally take over as fire rescue chief on June 8.
