NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - A driver crashed into an occupied house in Northwest Miami-Dade, leaving a major hole in the wall and sending six people to the hospital.

A woman in her 70s was inside the home along 103rd Street, in Northwest Miami-Dade, at the time of the crash, according to the homeowner’s son. He said she was sitting on the couch when the car suddenly slammed into her home, Tuesday afternoon.

The impact of the car pushed the window and the door out and forced concrete to come down.

Those inside the home said the driver lost control of his car when he reached down for a bookbag, as he headed east on 103rd Street and hit the home on the corner of 35th Avenue.

Other people were inside the multi-family house, but the woman was the only one who was injured. She has been identified by family as Ana Pierol. Her son told 7News that he believes she had a head injury.

“She was sitting right here in the living room,” Pierol’s son said through a translator, “and the accident was right here, from there to here, and I don’t know, the rescue took her. She was bleeding, an injury on her head, I don’t know.”

Those who were in the back part of the house said they heard the loud noise. “I just heard a big thump,” said Elenore Thomas. “‘Boom!’ that’s it. I had a bypass, I had a bypass. I can’t go out there.”

China Thomas also heard the collision. “It was just a big boom. That’s it,” she said. “It was like somebody crashed into something.”

Those who live inside the house speculate the driver veered off the road because he may have been reaching for something before losing control of the vehicle.

Elenore said that vehicles speed along the road in front of their house. “All the time,” she said.

The 70-year-old was transported to Hialeah Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Her son, Omar Ramos, described her injuries.

“She’s brusied all over,” he said. “She’s got a brusied neck. Her chest hurts and her spine hurts.”

Pierol is expected to recover.

The Miami-Dade Police Department continues to investigate this case.
