DAVIE, FLA. (WSVN) - Broward County Public Schools’ superintendent embraced the future by learning to code at a South Florida high school.

Robert Runcie worked with students at Nova High School near Davie Road and Southwest 39th Street, Monday.

“It’s technology that our young people are going to have to learn how to use and embrace to solve many of the challenges that we know exist on the planet,” said Runcie.

“STEM is a really big field, you know, it’s science, technology, engineering and math,” said Santiago Guitierrez, a student, “so by being involved in STEM, you’re being involved in something bigger than yourself.”

It’s part of Computer Science Education Week, which is meant to raise awareness about the importance of coding and computer science in school.
