NORTH MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) — Police are investigating after a group of armed robbers targeted a North Miami-Dade flea market booth.
The theft happened at USA Flea Market at 3015 NW 79th Street, at a booth called Gold R Us, on Oct. 23.
Surveillance video captured five men rushing into the flea market and started smashing the display cases with a sledgehammer. Some of the subject were also armed with rifles.
“All of a sudden, the guy screams, ‘Get down! Get down!’, and another couple of guys come,” said the victim.
The victim was behind the counter said one of the subjects pointed a a gun at him, which jammed when the subject tried to shoot. One subject shot at the display case as accomplices stole jewelry. The entire ordeal took about a minute and a half.
Police said the getaway was likely planned. The subjects escaped in a white van that was waiting in the parking lot.
The victim said he feared for his life during the robbery. “Once it goes off, you understand that that’s not a game anymore,” he said. “It’s something serious. It’s not just a robbery, it become over that already.”
When shown the footage, Thursday, shopper Chris James was shocked to see such a robbery take place and is now questioning his safety. “That is crazy,” he said. “Now it has me more in a situation where I’m standing at now, if I’m in a safe area.”
In the surveillance video you see workers shuttering gates to try and stay safe. Luckily no one was injured.
“You have to be a real crazy person, real crazy,” said shopper Miguel Ferrer.
According to the store owner, it all took about a minute and a half for the robbers to take off with tens of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.
