WSVN — Color is an important part of any room’s design, but you have to be careful not to go overboard. 7’s makeover maestro shows us the right way to decorate in tonight’s Room For Improvement.

Martin Amado: “All right, Emmy, so you’re 14 years old, and what have you done with the space so far?”

Emmy: “Well, Martin, I painted the walls and I got some new furniture, but it hasn’t really come together at all. It’s just kind of everywhere.”

Martin Amado: “So, reflect more of a teenage space. Very well! Well, let me surprise you, and I hope you like it at the end.”

Martin Amado: “The wall color is not a true orange compared to the bedding, but it is very bold. The overall vision is to combine turquoise with touches of white to help neutralize the colors and balance it out correctly in the space. But, first let’s address the windows because they need help.”

Martin Amado: “Much better than what we had before. And, of course, now the blue helps to break up some of this bold tangerine.”

Martin Amado: “Next up, the room is begging for a new furniture layout.”

Martin Amado: “Now, we have the look and function of a day bed, and check this out! We gained all this additional room right in front of it.”

Martin Amado: “Here’s a tip when you’re installing a large piece of artwork: go ahead and use two hooks to evenly distribute the weight, and that way you ensure that it’s always perfectly level.”

Martin Amado: “Adding our second accent color in white also helps balance out the colors in the space.”

Martin Amado: “Now we have the perfect reading corner for Emmy with this brand new chair that I love. We’re still using her existing ottoman, so you can see how the colors start coming together, and I have a brand new accent table as well for this corner coming up.”

Martin Amado: “And, the final touch…? Can you guess? An area rug that Emmy already had, and you can see, it ties all of the colors together.”

Martin Amado: “1, 2, 3! Open your eyes!”

Emmy: “Oh, my gosh!”

Martin Amado: “Your inspiration actually came from the pillow right there that you had already. So you like it?”

Emmy: “Uh-hm! I really like it!”

Martin Amado: “All right, Emmy, so I love the fact that you’re not afraid of color, and this is the right way to do it. It’s not overwhelming. It’s just enough. Lots of personality for sure. To all the viewers at home we thank you so much for watching, and we’ll see you next time on another ‘Room For Improvement.'”
