FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) — The principal of Croissant Park Elementary school died Monday after she was involved in a motorcycle crash.

Principal Jamie Maradiaga’s was described by officials as a mentor to her students, teachers and staff, and known as a visionary leader. She served the district for 25 years, and was principal at Croissant Park Elementary since 2009.

"Ms. Maradiaga was an outstanding, dedicated and compassionate person and principal. The positive impact she made on her students and school cannot truly be measured," said Superintendent Robert W. Runcie in a statement.  "Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and the entire Croissant Park Elementary School community. She will be missed," he added.

The school has a variety of counseling services in place for any student, employee or parent needing support. The school’s assistant principal, Michelle-Ann Allison, is now serving as the interim school leader.
