With so many crusts and toppings to choose from, the perfect pizza is whatever you say it is. Now one place is schooling you on pizza perfection. Deco’s extra cheesy correspondent Chris Van Vliet is here with more.

I didn’t always pay attention in school, but it would have been a very different story if I was learning about delicious food and I got to eat what I learned about. And that’s exactly what happened when I enrolled in Pizza 101 in Fort Lauderdale.

Chris Van Vliet: “Who doesn’t love pizza, right?”

Steven D’Apuzzo, Beauty & the Feast: “Everybody loves pizza. No matter where you’re from, you like pizza.”

And, at Beauty & the Feast on Fort Lauderdale Beach, you’re the one making the pizza! Sixty-nine dollars enrolls you in Pizza 101, a fun and hands-on two-hour class that will make you a pizza expert.

Steven D’Apuzzo: “We actually teach everyone how to hand-stretch the dough on their own, how to top it properly. Then we assist them, we put it in the oven.”

But it’s not just about making a delicious pie.

Steven D’Apuzzo: “So are we ready to get started? Yeah!”

Pizza 101 teaches you the history of pizza.

Steven D’Apuzzo: “I’m going to bring you up to around 997 A.D., which is the official birth of pizza and the word ‘pizza’ in Naples, Italy.”

Great pizza begins with great dough.

Steven D’Apuzzo: “You’re patting down the middle and you’re creating a crust.”

Hand-stretching the dough is key to making the crust light, crispy and, of course, delicious!

Steven D’Apuzzo: “I’m extending it, rotating it, let go. I’m extending it, rotating it, let go. And, at the end of the day, making a nice pie.”

Chris Van Vliet: “I want it to be the best looking pizza.”

Steven D’Apuzzo: “I think you already missed that boat.”

Chris Van Vliet: “Wow! Welp, see ya!”

Next comes the sauce.

Steven D’Apuzzo: “We only use real San Marzano tomatoes, which are grown on the slope of Mount Vesuvius.”

Chris Van Vliet: “I’m really good at eating pizza. Not as good at making it.”

But then I remind myself, it’s not about how it looks, it’s about how it tastes. Bring on the fresh mozzarella!

Steven D’Apuzzo: “Neapolitan pizzas are sparely topped, so with each bite you get to taste everything that you’re enjoying.”

Top with basil and some extra virgin olive oil and it’s ready for the oven.

Chris Van Vliet: “This is the moment of truth. The reckoning of reality.”

Into the oak oven it goes, and it’s hot in there. We’re talking 900 degrees, so it only takes three minutes to cook.

Chris Van Vliet: “It’s like watching a baby. A baby made of pizza.”

Now come on, doesn’t that bubbling cheese make your mouth water? The good news is, we don’t have to wait much longer, because it’s finally ready!

Steven D’Apuzzo: “The pie don’t lie, you ready for it?”

Like it’s even a question if I’m ready to eat pizza! Slice it up and…

Chris Van Vliet: “Drumroll, please! Wow! Very nice, thank you. Oh, my gosh, that is amazing.”

Beauty & the Feast hosts four Pizza 101 classes a week.
