Sometimes the better the first movie, the worse the sequel, but “Bridget Jones’s Baby,” a sequel to two films with a massive following, is not planning to be on the “Sequels that Bombed” list.

Renée Zellweger is back after 12 long years, and it seems like nothings changed! And that’s a good thing.

Renée Zellweger (as Bridget): “Dear diary, it’s sort of a funny story.”

They say, when it rains, it pours. Just ask Bridget Jones.

Renée Zellweger (as Bridget): “A few months ago, I met Jack … and then the next week, Mark, my ex and I had similar relations.”

Bridget is back — and she’s in quite a pickle.

Renée Zellweger (as Bridget): “I’m pregnant!

Colin Firth (as Mark): “So you have no idea which of us is the father?

It’s been 12 years since we’ve seen Renée Zellweger play Bridget, so we were kind of worried about this sequel. And turns out, so was she.

Renée Zellweger: “Yes, I’m laughing hearing you say it, because –”

Patrick Dempsey: “It’s nice to hear you say that.”

Renée Zellweger: “We’ve all shared that trepidation.”

Colin Firth: “That’s why it’s taken 12 years to make one, I think.”

Renée Zellweger: “Yeah, I think so.”

Renée reunited with Colin Firth, who plays Bridget’s ex, Mr. Darcy.

Colin Firth: “There was the trepidation you’re talking about. Obviously there’s pressure, but once we saw everybody and we started to hear the words spoken out loud, it just started to, you know — I never embrace optimism very quickly.”

Renée Zellweger: “He’s protecting himself from disappointment, yeah.”

Colin Firth: “It suddenly started to feel right.”

As for our leading lady — trepidation didn’t stop Renée from having a good time on set.

Renée Zellweger: “It was fun. It was exciting from the minute I got the script, and just so happy to get back in her world. There’s her parents and these guys and her friends.”

Besides all the comebacks, the cast embraced a cute newbie.

Patrick Dempsey plays Jack, Bridget’s latest love interest.

Patrick Dempsey: “For me, Jack was the least defined. ‘Who is he’ and ‘why is he here?’ ‘How does he add value?’ Some questions you could answer, and some you just sort of go, ‘She’s Bridget, you go with it.'”

Colin Firth: “I think you helped develop him a lot.”

Renée Zellweger: “I was gonna say the same thing.”

Colin Firth: “I think there was something not quite fully formed until you showed up.”

Aww, can you feel the love? We totally do.

Colin Firth: “Good.”

Bridget Jones’s Baby hits theaters Sept. 16.
