Feel good Hollywood stories don’t always include fairy tales and princesses… sometimes they’re star the people who cut your hair. Tinsel Town is making an effort to be more diverse and deliver important messages without losing the fun… and the folks from "Barbershop: The Next Cut" have found a way to do just that.
Ice Cube is back in "Barbershop: The Next Cut." This time the hair cutting crew is doing hair — and doing good by trying to make their neighborhood safe from guns and gangs.
The movie has the usual barbershop franchise humor… but now, they’re mixing in topical headlines.
Ice Cube: "The message is — if you want to change things in your life, you have to take the initiative. If you want to be the one who makes a difference."
In the flick — local gangs are dividing the neighborhood — and the shop works out a ceasefire.
Ice Cube: "You can’t look for outside forces to change your reality. It’s a message that’s needed and I hope people take heed to it."
Common, Anthony Anderson, Nicki Minaji, Eve, and Regina Hall and the rest of this star studded cast help to combine comedy and current events.
Regina Hall: "Its about community and empowerment."
Eve: "And obviously it’s touching on things that are happening right now, that are real now."
The plot may be heavy — but the movie works to balance the theme with the fun.
Common: "Like I don’t feel like I’m watching a message movie, but you leave feeling touched and inspired. And it is a message."
"Barbershop: The Next Cut" is in theaters Friday, April 15.
