Cage diving with sharks is a popular adventure seeking sport around the globe, but what happens when it all goes wrong?

One diver was about to find out.

A video posted on YouTube video has turned into a global social media sensation after a shark is seen charging towards a shark cage near the Guadalupe Island.

When diving with sharks, the aluminum cage is the only thing standing between the diver and the shark.

The video shows footage of the shark thrashing in the cage, and it isn’t until 55 seconds into the video where you see a diver jump from the ocean.

The YouTube user said the shark charged towards the cage because of the tuna that was tied to a rope to lure the shark in.

The footage was shot by the father of two ‘All-American boys from California’. According to the YouTube description, the diver was not injured during the incident.

“He ended up outside the bottom of the cage, looking down on two great white sharks,” according to the post.

Thankfully the diver was experienced and remained calm before surfacing during the terrifying ordeal.

“When a great white shark lunges and bites something, it is temporarily blinded,” the post said. “They also cannot swim backward. So this shark lunged at the bait, accidentally hit the side of the cage, was most likely confused and not able to swim backward, it thrust forward and broke the metal rail of the cage.”

While an experience like this would scare the toughest of adventure seekers, this event only encouraged these thrill seekers, as everyone returned to continue shark diving the following day.
