The Broward Sheriff’s Office said a woman, who was trying to cross the street, was fatally struck by a BSO deputy early Wednesday morning.

BSO said the victim had just left Broward Health Imperial Point with her boyfriend when she was struck near North Federal Highway and Northeast 62nd Street.

Paramedics transported the woman to Broward North Medical Center where doctors pronounced her dead just 30 minutes later. “BSO Traffic Homicide Investigators spent the morning trying to determine exactly what happened that led to this crash and the woman’s death,” said BSO Spokesperson Dani Moschella.

BSO said the deputy has returned to his normal shift. “The deputy will return to work for his normal shift unless a supervisor will determine that’s not appropriate for some reason,” said Moschella, “But it’s not like a deputy-involved shooting where there is an automatic leave, that doesn’t happen in this case.”

The victim’s boyfriend and the BSO deputy were not injured

The accident remains under investigation.
