MIAMI (WSVN) - Westbound lanes on the Venetian Causeway have reopened, hours after a gas leak prompted emergency responders to stop traffic in both directions from North Bayshore Drive, Monday afternoon.

Fire Rescue officials said, around 8:30 p.m., that they were able to cap the leak. At about 10 p.m., the Miami Beach side of the Venetian Causeway was re-opened.

City of Miami Fire Rescue units responded to the gas leak near 930 North Venetian Drive, just after 3 p.m. Fire rescue officials said construction crews ruptured a five-inch gas main.

Miami Water and Sewer workers and TECO Energy gas workers remained at the scene for hours. They dug a hole to get to the pipe and had to pump water out before they could repair the pipe.
