MIAMI (WSVN) - A popular ridesharing application has partnered with Miami-Dade Transit to provide even more options for those using public transportation.

Lyft announced in August that they have teamed up with the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) with “the same goal as Miami-Dade County, which is to build a more sustainable transportation network.”

According to the news release, DTPW transports “more than 300,000 average weekday boardings” and “is the largest public transportation system in Florida.”

Lyft said their goals are to create a more connected and convenient travel experience. “We’re excited to work with Miami-Dade County to fill transit gaps, cut traffic, and expand mobility for all,” said Lyft Miami General Manager Sam Cohen in the news release. “This partnership is just the first step in our long-term mission to make it easy to live well without owning a car.”

If you’re new to Lyft, the company has provided a code for first-time users, “GET2TRANSIT,” which takes $5 off each of the new users’ first 10 Lyft rides.
