COCONUT CREEK, FLA. (WSVN) - A Coconut Creek woman is crediting a clinical trial with helping her recover after receiving breast and ovarian cancer-related surgeries.

When Tracy Posner was 22 years old, she tested positive for the BRCA gene. This means she was at an increased risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. “I was diagnosed with the BRCA gene and was ready to take action this year and have a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy and hysterectomy which started in August,” Posner said. “December, I had a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy followed by reconstruction in April.”

The process has not been easy for Posner. “It has been a journey and I encourage many women to go ahead and get tested,” she said.

Posner participated in a clinical trial with a new technology aimed at improving the reconstruction process for women.
