NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) — A shark attacked a 13-year-old boy in waist-deep water, forcing a Florida beach to close, Sunday afternoon.

According to Neptune Beach Police, the boy and his stepfather were in barely three feet of water when a shark measuring 5 to 6 feet in length bit the boy in the leg, at around 3 p.m. The beach closed as a result of the incident.

Rescuers bandaged up the boy’s leg and were able to stop the bleeding. He was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with a severe laceration, but he is expected to be OK.
