MIAMI (WSVN) - Great news for thousands of American Airlines employees in Miami, Friday. American Airlines has announced that they will be providing pay increases to 30,000 of their ground employees who are represented by the TWU-IAM Association, 4,000 of them working out of Miami.

Of the 12,000 employees American has in Miami, the pay increase will only directly impact the nearly 4,000 maintenance, fleet service and other related Miami employees represented under the Association.

According to American Airlines, these employees will receive, on average, about $12,000 more per year, making this the highest hourly wage rate in the airline industry.

“We are pleased to reach this innovative and unprecedented agreement with the Association, which will provide immediate and significant pay increases for 30,000 of American’s more than 100,000 team members,” said Robert Isom, Chief Operating Officer for American. “With 12 diverse workgroups represented by the Association, reaching a single agreement for this specific set of co-workers is taking longer than any of us anticipated.”
