POMPANO BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - Newly released 911 calls that led Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies to open fire on a Pompano Beach man captured a frantic family member seeking help in what investigators described as a domestic disturbance.
Deputies responded to a home near Northwest 14th Street and Third Avenue in Pompano Beach, Friday, just before 10 p.m. When they arrived, authorities said, they found 55-year-old Gregory Frazier in the yard holding a knife.
His sister, Deborah Frazier, had made the call for help.
Dispatcher: “911. What’s your emergency?”
Deborah Frazier: “It’s an emergency. My (inaudible), he hit my, my … he’s trying to hurt my daughter and my son. He’s breaking up stuff in the house, right now!”
Dispatcher: “And who is he?”
Deborah Frazier: “Hurry up. Hurry up, please.”
Investigators said the subject’s niece told them he was drunk and had gotten “a little rowdy with me.”
Authorities said both deputies who responded fired their weapons.
Witnesses said they heard about five or six gunshots.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded and pronounced Gregory dead at the scene.
On Sunday, dozens of “Black Lives Matter” protesters gathered at the scene of the shooting to demonstrate against the use of lethal force.
The shooting remains under investigation. The deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave.
