MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (WSVN) — A South Florida college student needs help to make his hoop dreams come true.

Yunio Barrueta is a finalist for ESPN’s Dark Horse Challenger Contest. The forward for Barry University’s basketball team is one of 16 dunkers in the entire country selected for the award, which is now down to the final two.

Barrueta is facing off against Wagner College student Dwaun Anderson. "If I win, I go to Texas and I perform on ESPN on the College Dunk Contest," he said.

Barrueta is also the fifth leading scorer in the nation, the Sunshine State’s conference player of the year and an All-American. "I’ve been dunking since the ninth grade, so I’ve been gifted with that ability to jump," he said.

Voting lasts until Wednesday. If you would like to vote, go to https://darkhorsedunker.com/contest.
