According to singer Andy Williams, this is the most wonderful time of the year. But in Fort Lauderdale, it’s the ugliest time of the year. Yes, we’re talking about ugly Christmas sweaters. You can find them, and some special cocktails, at a soirée at a Las Olas hot spot.
The folks at American Social in Fort Lauderdale have issued a request: Thursday night, come on by their place for the Fourth Annual Ugly Sweater Party.
Paul Greenberg, American Social: “A good time for everybody to get together, wear their ugly sweaters. We have a contest going on. Whoever wears the best sweater, we’re gonna give a prize out to.”
The “best” sweater? There must be a better way to describe the winner.
Paul Greenberg: “I would say it’s gonna be the ‘best worst sweater.'”
The only thing stopping you from winning first prize is your own ability to come up with something really goofy.
Paul Greenberg: “Yeah, you can use your imagination. It’s just a great time to celebrate the holidays together and have fun with it.”
Hanging around a crowded bar in a Christmas sweater can cause a person to develop a deep, deep thirst. AmSo has come up with some special ways to handle just such a situation.
Paul Greenberg: “Well, we’re featuring our cocktail list. Our holiday drink specials right now, we’re gonna feature five cocktails that are going to be $10 apiece.”
You can kick back with a Mistletoe Mixer — Amaretto, pomegranate juice and lemon juice topped off with prosecco, a sprig of rosemary and a cherry.
Or a Cinnamon Roll Martini — pumpkin vodka, Cinnabon creme liqueur and coffee liqueur with cinnamon and a cinnamon stick.
All the cocktails were created to keep a holiday party rockin’.
Paul Greenberg: “It’s that time of year. It’s just fun, you know. We wanted to do something in theme. Everybody enjoys it, and it’s just a great time of year, so why not?”
The Candy Cane Cooler, the Winter Warmer and the Cranberry Mule complete the fab five. Of course, there are tasty apps that go perfectly with whatever you’re drinking.
Everybody’s got a tacky sweater they can wear to American Social’s Ugly Sweater Party. Right, Caroline?
Caroline: “I think I do have a couple in my closet. I’m gonna have to dig them out, but they definitely will be ugly enough to compete in the contest.”
