WEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - An elderly couple was robbed in West Miami-Dade after crooks slashed their tires at a bank and followed them to their home.

A 90-year-old woman and her 89-year-old husband spoke with 7News about the troubling robbery, Monday.

Victim Gwen Peiffer said her husband drove home with the slashed tires and pulled into their garage at their home at Northwest Fifth Street in May. That’s when a robber ran into their garage, grabbed the woman’s purse with $11,000 inside, pushed her husband and fled the scene.

The Miami-Dade Police Department released surveillance video Monday of the robbery.

Peiffer said she withdrew the large sum that day to pay bills and gifts and said it all happened within seconds. “I had just opened the door. Mark was here, and he pushed Mark against the car, and he just pulled the purse off my shoulder, as I was going in here,” Peiffer said. “That’s it. I thought I was going nuts.”

She said the robber sprinted out of the garage. “It didn’t seem real, but he ran, and boy, he ran,” she said.

Police said they are looking for a white van that could be seen on surveillance. They are also looking for two robbers who were involved.
