MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. (WSVN) - A 3-year-old boy has died from his injuries after, police said, the child released himself from a car seat and fell out of a moving vehicle in Miami Gardens.

The child was pronounced dead, Thursday afternoon.

According to investigators, the incident happened in the area of Northwest 183rd Street and 47th Avenue, in front of a McDonald’s. at around 5:30 p.m., Wednesday.

A witness who asked not to be identified or show his face on camera said he saw the boy moments after he fell on the pavement.

“He was screaming and yelling,” he said.

Moments later, the witness said, he saw a woman approach the toddler.

“The mother was just screaming and yelling, and banging on the car,” he said. “They were just distraught.”

Surveillance video showed rescue crews as they rushed in with a stretcher shortly after.

Paramedics airlifted the victim to Ryder Trauma Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

“It’s really sad,” said Mikaela Yates, who lives near the scene of the incident.

Yates said this story hits close to home.

“I have a 3-year-old as well, so I can’t imagine,” she said.

Witnesses said a woman who was with the child was covered in blood.

Passers-by and area residents said they’re thinking of the boy’s loved ones.

“My heart goes out to the family,” said Yates.

“I’m sorry for your loss,” said a woman.

“I can’t even imagine how a parent would feel,” said the witness who spotted the child.

Police said no other injuries were reported.

As of late Thursday night, investigators have not released the boy’s name.
