LAUDERDALE LAKES, FLA. (WSVN) - Police are searching for two men who were caught on surveillance video smashing the glass door of a Lauderdale Lakes restaurant, breaking in and stealing all the cash registers, early Thursday morning.
The security video captures the subjects walking up to World Famous Restaurant, located on the corner of Oakland Park Boulevard and State Road 7.
After they broke the glass, the duo is seen making their way inside. “[One of them] comes in this way, and then he heads straight for the register,” said World Famous owner Chris Brown. “He must have been here before. Probably a customer of mine.”
The perpetrators are then seen ripping the cash registers out and taking off.
However, Brown said, the surveillance video captured crisp images of the burglars and their getaway car, and he had a message for them. “HD Video is really something, and you guys are definitely going to get caught. It is sad you have to do it on such a day like today,” he said.
But the crooks were not done, at around 4:45 p.m., they returned to the store and grabbed the two remaining registers. “[They] leave, they end up coming back again. Coming back for more,” said Brown.
Brown said they got away with $2,000, leaving him with a mess to clean up both outside and inside the family business. “This is the first time this has happened here. It’s tragic because it’s such a special thing,” he said.
And even with this mess, Brown said, he isn’t going to let the burglars ruin his Thanksgiving.
The business owner loaded up his truck to deliver food to the poor. “Going out and giving back, it just brings a warmth,” he said. “It isn’t what you can take, it is what you guys can give. That is what really counts and makes things special.”
Brown said he spent the rest of his Thanksgiving boarding up his restaurant.
