FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - A South Florida family is making a plea to the public, after a thief stole their car from a gas station while their beloved pet was inside.

It happened Tuesday morning, at a Sunshine gas station along Davie Boulevard.

Kristen Husk said she made a quick stop at the gas station to pick up a bottle of water before work. She shut off the car, but left the keys in the ignition and went inside. When she came back out she was shocked at what she found.

“I saw some girl getting in my car and driving off with my dog,” said Husk.

Surveillance video from the gas station showed the woman running around the pump and jumping into the car with Husk’s dog, Casey still in the back seat.

Husk ran after the car but it sped off. “I went back into the gas station, and the lady at the counter was already on the phone ’cause she had seen the, I guess distressed moment,” said Husk.

Police found the car not long after and arrested the thief along with a man who was wanted on other charges. However, Casey was nowhere to be found.

“They recovered the car without my dog in it,” said Husk, “and I guess the people weren’t being very cooperative on giving them information on exactly where she was dropped.”

Casey has been a part of the Husk family for 15 years.

Casey, the 15-year-old black and white Chihuahua Mix.

Kristen and her family have been working nonstop trying to bring her home. “I have been driving around looking for her for 12 hours and putting up flyers and everything we can.”

While Husk is glad to have her car back, her real worry is the missing family member. “I just want Casey back,” she said. “I mean, she’s my life. She’s everything to me. She’s everything to a lot of people.”
