WSVN — The new year brings a lot of new beginnings, and what better way to bring in 2016 than with a beautiful new bundle of joy? In tonight’s Room for Improvement, our makeover maestro is making room for baby in a princess-inspired nursery makeover!
Martin Amado: "We’re making room for baby on today’s Room for Improvement. We already have a good base to start with in the nursery, but it’s still missing those special touches. Let’s get to work."
Martin Amado: "We already have the basic furniture, including an armoire and a changing table. But, we all know the focal point of a nursery space is the crib, so let’s begin with the bedding."
Martin Amado: ""How many knots can I tie? But, the baby’s safety is always number one!"
Martin Amado: "The blinds are functional, but the window panels will give the nursery more style."
Martin Amado: "Now, let’s focus on the wall above the crib. I found these adhesive frames that will give me the perfect backdrop for more decorative items."
Martin Amado: "So, these are just peel-and-stick stickers, and I’m coming up with the layout first before I actually stick them on the wall."
Martin Amado: "So, the trick to get the framing level is to peel back part of the backing first, not the entire thing."
Martin Amado: "My tape line ensures I keep it straight."
Martin Amado: "Remove the backing slowly as you apply it on the wall."
Martin Amado: "Then, push any air bubbles out to the sides."
Martin Amado: "Now the baby’s initials will go right in the center. Beautiful!"
Martin Amado: "Love this, love this, love this! And it’s only stickers!"
Martin Amado: "The flower design will tie in with the area rug that you’ll see coming up later!"
Martin Amado: "Baskets and fabric bins are a great way to add organization and storage in a nursery."
Martin Amado: "And, speaking of storage, this is a tip worth mentioning. The homeowner had these shelves installed along the perimeter of the room. It’s a great way to add more organization and display your collectibles. In this case, the entire Barbie collection that she’s passing down to her princess."
Martin Amado: "And, this is the beautiful princess, Valerie, that we’re doing the room for."
Martin Amado: "The final touch to pull the entire nursery together is the area rug."
Martin Amado: "The room is now ready for Princess Valerie! It’s a great way to begin 2016. Happy New Year, and don’t forget to join me at wsvn.com for more tips in our Online Extra. See you next time!"
