MIAMI (WSVN) - Two new cases of the Zika virus are being investigated in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, Thursday morning.

According to the Florida Department of Health, the patients may have acquired the Zika virus in the United States, making the two cases non-travel related.

A door-to-door investigation is ongoing.

Over 300 instances of the Zika virus have been reported in Florida — all of them contracted overseas.

The mosquito-borne illness is especially dangerous for pregnant women and has been linked to serious birth defects. While Brazil is currently experiencing the largest outbreak of the disease, it has spread to at least 20 other Latin American countries.

Zika’s symptoms include rash, fever, joint pain and red eyes. It currently lasts seven to 10 days.

There is a 24-hour Zika hotline in Florida to answer questions and concerns. That number is 855-622-6735.
