WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A South Florida teen has been sentenced to six years in prison for fatally shooting her boyfriend while playing with a gun.

The Palm Beach Post reports that the 19-year-old woman was sentenced Friday. She pleaded guilty to manslaughter in July.

Authorities say the woman was 17 years old in December 2014 when she shot and killed Fredi Hernandez.

The woman told Palm Beach County sheriff’s detectives that she didn’t know the gun was loaded when she held it to her boyfriend’s head and pulled the trigger. She said she was angry with him because he took a Xanax pill but wasn’t trying to kill him.
