DORAL, FLA. (WSVN) - Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Giménez is now officially in the running for re-election in the upcoming mayoral race.

Giménez submitted his qualifying paperwork for the upcoming mayoral race at Elections Headquarters in Doral, Friday.

His best-known opponent, outgoing Miami-Dade Public School Board member Raquel Regalado, announced her campaign for office back in March. She is the daughter of City of Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado.

The primary election will take place Aug. 30. If no candidate reaches more than 50 percent plus one, the two highest vote-getters move onto a Nov. 8 runoff.
