SUNRISE, FLA. (WSVN) - Many South Florida families are taking advantage of the tax free weekend for back-to-school essentials.

The state’s annual tax free weekend began Friday and shoppers are already flocking to their go-to shopping mall.

Sawgrass Mills Mall in Sunrise is prepared for the increase in shoppers. “We expect a very robust shopping weekend, as we do every season. With the great deals and promotions we have going on compounded with tax-free incentives, people are going to take advantage of that,” said Chris Valle, Director of Marketing.

Stores at Dadeland Mall also saw a shopping boom Friday.

“It’s wonderful, it’s wonderful to be tax-free week … or weekend,” said shopper Elsa Vasquez.

Some changes for eligible items have been put in place this year. For more information, go to this link.
