WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (AP) — A Florida sheriff is warning of the dangers of meeting strangers to sell items advertised on social media sites after a 21-year-old man was fatally shot during a transaction.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd says Jeffrey Morrow Jr. died Sunday night after he went with friend Blake Fitez to sell an item being sold for $450. Judd didn’t identify the item Fitez was selling.

The Ledger reports the men met the buyer about 9:45 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the Family Dollar Store in Winter Haven.

Judd says the buyer reached into the car window, grabbed the item and ran. Morrow yelled he had a shotgun and ordered the man to stop, but Judd says the man turned and shot Morrow.

Fitez wasn’t injured.

Investigators are still searching for the suspect.
